Recent and Ongoing Research Projects

Assessment Interviews: Effectiveness and Prediction This project attempts to understand the Importance of an Assessment Interview before a high-stakes course such as the LPATE. The survey attempts to find correlations between a few factors: stated reasons for taking an LPATE course and probability of passing LPATE Test ¡V by skill (read, write, listen, speak, CLA); attitude towards course and passing probability; Levels received in Assessment interview and influence of Assessment interview.

Washback: IELTS Reading Tests and the LPATE
The subjects of this 2 -year study were fifty in-service teachers, from 4 different intakes to a Language Proficiency Assessment for Teachers of English (¡¥Benchmark¡¦) reading course in a Hong Kong University . The purpose of the study was to determine whether there is a correlation between a subjects¡¦ English reading proficiency and the types of reading questions they can answer.
